Western Canada

14 to 21 days

Vancouver - Victoria - Tofino - Campbell River - Whistler - Clearwater - Jasper - Banff - Calgary

A road trip through Western Canada is a series of landscapes that are extremely varied. From rainforest to glacial lake, this route offers a diverse mix of nature, culture, and outdoor experiences.

Vancouver - from ocean to mountaintop

Located between the Pacific Ocean and the North Shore Mountains, Vancouver offers an impressive backdrop for your first days in Canada. Walk or cycle along the Seawall in the large city park Stanley Park, discover the lively neighborhoods of Gastown and Granville Island, or explore nature at Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain. In Vancouver, you can travel smoothly with the SkyTrain, one of the world's first fully automated metro systems.

From the city, take the ferry to Victoria, the charming capital of British Columbia, with its strong British character. The crossing is an experience in itself: you sail past the Southern Gulf Islands with views of seals and, with a little luck, orcas. Stroll along the colorful Inner Harbor, visit the imposing Parliament Building or the floral splendor of Butchart Gardens.

Glacier water, wild salmon,
and the cry of an eagle

Tofino - a haven for nature lovers

Then drive west to Tofino. This surfer's paradise is nestled amid the pristine wilderness of Pacific Rim National Park and protects a diverse coastal ecosystem with ancient rainforests and tide pools. Join a unique boat excursion and admire black bears up close as they search for food along the coast. Tofino is also home to the First Nations, with impressive totem poles and stories that give meaning to the landscape. Whether you're braving the waves or simply enjoying the sunset at Long Beach, you'll feel the magic here.

From Tofino, drive back towards the east coast of Vancouver Island, where Campbell River is known as the salmon capital of the world. Here you will experience nature at its most impressive: orcas, bears, and eagles often make an appearance during an excursion. The fjords and islands around Discovery Passage also provide unforgettable panoramic views.

Fresh mountain air and time
that finally stands still

Afterwards, take the ferry back to the mainland and travel along the beautiful Sea to Sky Highway to the lively mountain village of Whistler, which hosted the Winter Olympics in 2010. Hike through alpine meadows and take spectacular trips on the gondola lifts, including the famous Peak 2 Peak between Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Mountain. After the ski season, Whistler is also a paradise for mountain bikers, with one of the largest and most challenging bike parks in the world.

In Clearwater, discover Wells Gray Provincial Park, one of Canada's most beautiful natural gems. The numerous waterfalls, including the impressive Helmcken Falls, and the vast forests invite you to go hiking, kayaking, and wildlife spotting.

Here you will find glaciers, turquoise lakes, and numerous hiking trails, ranging from short hikes to challenging mountain treks. Maligne Lake and the Icefields Parkway are also not to be missed: breathtaking landscapes and photo opportunities guaranteed. The adventure continues to Banff, where you will stay in the heart of Banff National Park.
