Alaska & Yukon

15 to 20 days

Anchorage - Denali NP - Fairbanks - Tok - Haines Junction - Whitehorse - Dawson City - Nabesna - Anchorage - Homer - Seward - Anchorage

Anchorage — the gateway to unspoiled nature

Alaska’s largest city and the perfect starting point. In less than a 30-minute drive, you go from city life to a glacier—a truly unique experience. Savor local specialties such as yak meat, freshly caught king crab, or craft beers. Admire the panoramic views of Cook Inlet and the snow-capped peaks of the Chugach Mountains, or take a stroll along the waterfront on the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. In summer, Anchorage enjoys nearly 22 hours of daylight. Perfect for long hikes, bike rides, or a kayaking adventure along the coastline.

The drive to Denali National Park feels like a journey to another world. Here, wilderness reigns supreme and the majestic mountain towers over everything. Take the time to go on a bus or train tour through the park and try to spot moose, grizzly bears, and caribou. And for those who love the outdoors, Denali offers hiking trails for all skill levels.

Located in the heart of Alaska’s interior, Fairbanks is one of the best places in the world to view the Northern Lights. Take a stroll along the Chena River or visit the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center to discover the region’s fascinating culture and nature.

Tok — the gateway to Alaska

After experiencing the city’s charm, you’ll head to Tok. Despite its modest size, Tok has a rugged and authentic Alaskan atmosphere. This is where the real adventure of the Alaska Highway begins. Tok is known for its sled dog races, including the Race of Champions in March. Immerse yourself in nature, and with a little luck, you’ll be able to admire the northern lights right from your bed.

Haines Junction is the gateway to the vast wilderness of Kluane National Park & Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring one of the world’s largest glaciers. Take a short hike along the Slim’s River Trail, or opt for an intensive trek to the summit of Mount Cairnes for breathtaking panoramic views.

After the serene tranquility, continue on to the capital of the Yukon. Whitehorse is beautifully situated on the banks of the Yukon River. Rent a kayak or canoe, or take a mountain bike ride through the surrounding forests and hills.

Further north lies Dawson City, a town that feels like a time capsule from the Klondike Gold Rush. Tens of thousands of prospectors came via Alaska and braved the infamous Chilkoot Pass, and today you can still hike it. Take a horse-drawn carriage ride, visit the massive gold mining machine Dredge No. 4, or take a trip to Midnight Dome for a panoramic view of the city and the Yukon River.

mountain passes and valleys

Nabesna – an unparalleled sense of freedom and connection

Our next stop takes us across the border to Nabesna, a remote base in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. For a unique experience, you can join a guided glacier trek or embark on an off-road adventure through the park. From Nabesna, we drive back toward Anchorage. We then continue southward, along the picturesque Turnagain Arm, where you’ll have a chance to see beluga whales at Beluga Point.

Exciting Experiences

  • Chena Hot Springs are mineral-rich springs in the middle of the wilderness (about an hour from Fairbanks). Float in the warm water at night while the northern lights dance above you.
  • In both winter and summer, you can go on a dog sledding tour. Sometimes on wheels if there’s no snow.
  • Build your own igloo under the guidance of local guides and experience how the Inuit survived in the cold for centuries.
  • Become a gold prospector yourself in Dawson. At Claim 33 or Goldbottom Mine Tours, you’ll learn the tricks of the trade under expert guidance. And whatever you find, you get to keep!

  • Fresh Alaskan salmon is among the best in the world, and having it prepared at outdoor restaurants makes for an unforgettable experience.

Grizzly bears and
leaping salmon

Homer - a coastal town with character

In this lively fishing town on Kachemak Bay, you can enjoy fresh seafood amidst colorful galleries and wooden fishermen’s cabins. Take a boat trip or fly by bush plane to Katmai or Lake Clark, where salmon leap upstream at the iconic Brooks Falls and grizzly bears patiently wait for their prey. Unparalleled tranquility and a unique opportunity to see these mighty animals up close.

Seward is the final stop and reveals the stunning panorama of Resurrection Bay. Cruises depart from the harbor to Kenai Fjords National Park for a day filled with natural beauty. Sail past steep fjords and watch glaciers calve. You’ll spot sea lions, puffins, whales, and sometimes orcas.

Next, you’ll travel back to Anchorage via the Alaska Railroad, one of the most beautiful train routes in the world. Take one last look at the pristine valleys, glistening mountain lakes, and snow-capped peaks. A journey that showcases Alaska one last time in all its grandeur.

Exciting Facts
